Every morning upon waking I consider my view of a one-hundred year old Ash tree silhouetted against the sky through a small divided light window. Metaphorically speaking, I am the window, a compartmentalized grouping of panes. The tree and sky represent the complexity of all that is beyond myself. As I contemplate the bigger picture around me, I realize that it is filtered through my various roles as a woman, partner, mother, grandmother, caretaker, and friend. My art—as my life—is a piecing together of many parts, necessarily divided, but seeking the whole.
